Student Charter
The College is committed to providing outstanding education through our shared responsibility. Our Charter outlines what you can expect from us - the service and quality that you are entitled to as a student is backed up by a range of policies and procedures that can be accessed through the College intranet and at Reception. The Charter also makes clear what we expect from you.
What you can expect from North Warwickshire & Hinckley College
- At all times we will respect you as an individual and your right to be given equal opportunities to succeed.
- Information, advice and guidance about the best course for you (please be open with us about the support you require) and help and advice as you progress through your course.
- An induction to the College and each aspect of your course.
- We will make sure that you have information you need about the services, facilities and support that will be available to you as a student, via moodle, the College website, advice and guidance areas and notice boards.
- We will provide teachers and support staff who have the skills, qualifications and commitment to support you and encourage you to succeed.
- Full information about the assessment process for your course, the College assessment appeals policy and any deadline set.
- We will give you timely and accurate information about examinations and the examination regulations.
- We will provide you with appropriate equipment, classrooms and facilities, including new technologies, within available resources.
- We will at all times, take into account your individual learning needs and provide appropriate support services where possible.
- We will give you the opportunity to make your views known about the College and make changes to the services available to you through student forums, the student parliament, student surveys, focus groups, the students union and the complaints procedure.
- We will provide a complaints procedure which is easy to follow and to understand.
- Throughout your course, careers information will be available to help you to prepare for the future.
- We will make sure that information is available to you about financial matters, such as fees, EMA/ALG and other financial support, which may affect you as a student.
- We will provide feedback on your work, guidance for improving it and assistance in catching up on sessions you couldn’t help missing.
- We will provide access to guidance and counselling on educational, career or personal matters.
- A healthy and safe College with protection of your rights as set out in the College’s Equality and Diversity, Disability Statement and Health and Safety policies.
- Clear information about College regulations and attendance, timekeeping and conduct.
What we expect from you
- You must behave in a way that shows respect to others and their right to learn, work, use appropriate and non-threatening language and be part of North Warwickshire and Hinckley College. This means showing respect to other students, staff and visitors, and be recognising others’ rights to Equal Opportunities.
- You will take responsibility for your learning in partnership with your Personal Tutor and subject tutors. You can do this by making sure you attend classes regularly, attending on time, meeting agreed deadlines for handing in work and taking part in all the activities that are part of your course.
- Tell staff well before a deadline if you think you are not going to be able to get the work done on time and why.
- Carry out all reasonable requests from members of staff.
- Inform the College if you are unable to attend a class or other activity.
- Act in a safe manner with due regard for the Health and Safety of others, following instructions from College staff at all times.
- Help to keep the College a safe and pleasant place by only smoking in the smoking shelters, only consuming food and drink in the refectories and not in the corridors or classrooms, not leaving chewing gum on floors or furniture or spitting and disposing of litter in the appropriate places.
- Let us know at any time during your course (preferably before it starts) if you need additional help or any support.
- You must follow the College Health and Safety regulations, Equality and Diversity Policy and Bullying Policy. You agree to act at all times with thought for your own safety and that of others.
- Your mobile phone must be turned off during all teaching and learning sessions and in learning centres.
- Abide by all North Warwickshire & Hinckley College disciplinary procedures
- Help us to improve our service by taking part in quality reviews
- You must not be in possession of or under the influence of any alcohol or illegal drugs on any North Warwickshire & Hinckley College campus.
- You must not smoke in any College building and you must use the designated smoking shelters in the College.
- You must pay fees promptly, or seek advice if you are having difficulty.
- Let us know if you are having any difficulties that may affect your learning.
- Wear your ID badge at all times whilst in College.
