Pathways and opportunities
There are many opportunities available for students at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College to enable them to follow a particular personalised route, specific course or sector led destination.
Our opportunities for 14 to 19 year olds have been carefully crafted into a range of specific pathways that offer progressive routes for students of all abilities, across a huge range of subjects and sectors.
We are delighted to be able to share these opportunities with you that will support you in both understanding and planning the right route for you and your future aspirations. This may be through a vocational NOVA route, a fast track VAULT route, our Pathways programme, a Diploma or Professional Scholarship. Your school will have more specific details relating to these courses and as always, you are welcome to come and speak to a member of the Schools Team.
We look forward to helping you release your potential and transform your life chances…
Nova
Now in a successful 11th year, the New Opportunities for Vocational Achievement pathway offers students the chance to complete a Level 1 qualification in one of 14 different vocational areas over two years. Students guided towards this will have been teacher assessed at a Level 4 or above and will have an attendance of above 90%. A commitment to learning in the specific vocational sector is expected and progression opportunities are many and varied.
Vault
The Vocationally Accredited Unique Learning Tier pathway looks at moving students quickly through Level 1 to a Level 2 qualification across the two years, with opportunities to fast-track post-16. Aimed at capable and motivated students with good organisational skills, they will undertake a mix of practical and theory work over an extended six hour day per week.
Young Apprenticeships
Young Apprenticeships are designed to add challenge and a work related focus to highly motivated students whom seek a Level 2 qualification. Studied over a single extended day of six hours per week, students in addition will need to complete 50 days of work experience over the two years, some of which may be in school holiday time. A firm commitment is expected on entry to this exciting and progressive course that unites education and industry.
Professional Scholarships
These fast-track GCSE courses are designed to offer breadth, challenge and an extra dimension to a students’ current curriculum diet. Studied as a twilight course for one evening a week over the course of a year, it gives students the opportunity to partake in courses that may not be available within their institution. High attendance rates are expected here.
Diplomas
There are seven different diplomas available from September 2010 within the area of North Warwickshire and the College is the provider for the principle learning for many of them. Designed to give you a mix of class work with ‘hands on’ experience of a particular sector they offer good opportunities for progression. More details are available from within your school.
Pathways
Designed as an Entry Level to Level 1 programme, this pathway comfortably meets the needs of students who have low levels of self confidence and low self esteem. In addition, they enjoy working in a smaller class environment away from school with more practical opportunities. Pathways offers study in five vocational areas with the opportunity to specialise in one area post-16.
