Introduction
Apprenticeships - real jobs, real pay and real qualifications. Apprenticeships are a great way to gain nationally-recognised qualifications and at the same time, work in a real job that pays real wages (employer-led Apprenticeships).
A popular alternative to full-time education at college or school, you can complete either an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship – depending on your entry qualifications and job role. Nationally-recognised by employers in all fields and trades, Apprenticeship programmes lead to Level 2 and Level 3 (Advanced Apprenticeships).
In both cases, you will generally study for one day per week at College and combine this with working on-the-job at your place of work for the other four days. This interesting mix of work and College study keeps learning interesting and relevant to the workplace.
Apprenticeships are available in some fantastic study areas including: Barbering, Brickwork, Business Administration, Building Refurbishment & Repair, Children’s Care Learning & Development, Customer Service, Dental Surgery Assistants, Electrotechnical, Engineering, Forklift Truck Maintenance, Hairdressing, Hospitality & Catering, Health & Social Care, IT Users, Management, Motor Vehicle Maintenance, Plumbing, Retail, Teaching Assistants and Wood Occupations.
Depending on which Apprenticeship scheme is selected, the programme provides accreditation with NVQs at either Level 2 or 3 and also Key Skills which address the personal development of an individual.
As an Apprentice, you will also complete the technical certificates relevant to your job, vocation or trade. The qualifications assess vocational knowledge and understanding, and are delivered through a taught programme of ‘off the job’ training (College-based), unlike NVQs which are delivered through ‘on the job’ training (work-based).
