|Introduction||This course is for you If you enjoy developing computer games from scratch, or have an interest in the expanding and exciting industry of computer games development, You will examine the entire lifecycle of game development from the initial idea through to the final release stage.
On successful completion of the HND you are able to progress onto our BA Level 6 course validated by Coventry University. |
|Study Outline||The BTEC HND in Creative Media Production (Games Design) is a full time course, 2 years in duration. You will complete a total of 16 units over the two years; 8 in the first year and 8 in the second year. These are a range of practical and theoretical based units produced by Pearson - EDEXCEL. The course is designed to give you a realistic and in-depth learning experience as a games developer. Units include:- Career Development for Computer Games Industry, 3D Modelling for Computer Games,3D Environments for Computer Games,Computer Games Engines, Human-Computer Interfaces for Computer Games. New to 2017 is our Virtual Reality Kit, we now have a HTC Vive and you will have the chance to play and develop VR experiences.
|Entry Requirements|| You will need to be aged 18 years or over on or before 31 August of the academic year the course commences.
You will need a minimum of 80 UCAS points which may be gained from the following qualifications:
A levels (in appropriate subjects)
A BTEC National Diploma or Extended Diploma
A BTEC National Certificate
Other relevant UK and international qualifications
Alternatively, if you have significant relevant work experience or other professional qualifications you may be eligible for the course. Contact the College and we can arrange for you to attend an advisory interview discuss your experience and suitability for the course.

|Equipment||Most of the resources that you will need for your course will be accessible at the Hinckley Campus. These include Library, computer and specialist workshop facilities. Cameras and video equipment are bookable from the Hinckley stores.|
|Attendance|| Attendance is Full Time over two years. This includes taught time and self-directed study. |
|Assessment||The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning of the content of each unit has taken place. Evidence of this learning, or the application of the learning, is required for each unit. This may be for example; a portfolio, presentation, essay or a report. Assessment criteria and contextualized grade descriptors are clearly indicated on each assessment brief to provide a guide for you. |
|Progression||Following successful completion of the HND, you may be able to study for an additional year with us to gain a degree or go into employment in the games sector.|
