IntroductionEngineering is an exciting, ever-evolving industry that opens up a huge range of career options for employees and diversifies opportunities for additional income routes for employers. Here at NWSLC we have a number of Engineering Apprenticeships programmes available to up skill current employees or equip your new workforce with new knowledge and new practical skills (supported in the workplace).
Study OutlineThis programme of study may include units such as health and safety, mechanical principles, engineering maths, engineering drawing and computer aided design. Also functional skills English, maths and ICT level 2. The units for the NVQ qualification, (which is assessed in the workplace), will be discussed and agreed between the assessor and the employer to match the Apprentices job role.
Entry RequirementsYou will need at least four GCSEs grade A-C including English, maths and science or you have achieved an Intermediate Performing Engineering Operations Apprenticeship. If youre interested in becoming an Apprentice, you will need to be employed or find an employer who is recruiting an Apprentice. EquipmentOveralls, safety boots, pen, calculator and memory stick (USB). For safety reasons, if you require access to the workshops you will need to wear the required PPE items to operate safely. Failure to bring in equipment may result in you being sent back to your employer.
AttendanceIf progressing from a level 2 PEO apprenticeship in college the estimation time to complete the level 3 programme is 2 years. The technical certificate for this framework will be delivered on a day release basis in which you will have a copy of the planned delivery programme. Functional skills will also be factored in on a day release basis however on occasions this may have to be delivered on a different day of the week, this will be discussed and agreed with the employer with maximum notice given. If an apprentice is a direct entrance onto the level 3 programme the estimated delivery and assessment time is 3 years (this is to include mandatory skills specific units required for the level 3 NVQ Ext Diploma qualification). Additional delivery plans to suit the needs of the business can be discussed and implemented if possible (for example apprentice in college on a full time basis 5 days if required).
AssessmentAssessments of this framework will be via assignments for the technical certificate, workplace observations, building a portfolio of work related evidence and online tests.
ProgressionProgression on to a higher Apprenticeship will be dependent on a number of requirements including excellent attendance, attitude and behaviour, achievement of the level 3 framework in a timely manner and the desire to achieve whatever it takes to be successful at the next level. Your job role must cover the requirements of the NVQ level 4 qualification for you to progress, this will be discussed with your assessor and employer. Progression can also be a standalone HNC qualification which will be delivered on a day release basis.
