|Introduction||Engineering is an exciting, ever-evolving industry that opens up a huge range of career options for employees and diversifies opportunities for additional income routes for employers. Here at NWSLC we have a number of Engineering Apprenticeships programmes available to up skill current employees or equip your new workforce with new knowledge and new practical skills (supported in the workplace).
|Study Outline||Mechanical Pathway - Units will include health and safety communication and carry out activities efficiently and effectively. Also included on mechanical pathway is producing components using hand fitting techniques, preparing and using milling machines and lathes. We are currently developing CNC units to support the changes in the industry.
Welding & Fabrication - Units will include health and safety communication and carry out activities efficiently and effectively also included producing steel metal components and preparing and using manual TIG or plasma arc welding equipment, semi-automatic MAG and flux cord arc welding equipment.
Optional pathways could include electronics, maintenance and technical support.
|Entry Requirements||GCSE grades E or above in English, Maths and Science. If youre interested in becoming an Apprentice, you will need to be employed or find an employer who is recruiting an Apprentice.

|Equipment||Overalls, safety boots, pen, calculator and memory stick (USB). For safety reasons, entry to the workshops will not be allowed without the required safety equipment of overalls and safety boots.
Failure to bring in equipment may result in you being sent back to your employer.
|Attendance||Generally over a 2 year period 1 day release at college or 2 days over a period of a year.
This will be discussed and agreed with your employer. Length of time on this programme could be altered depending on the prior attainment of the candidate and experience.
|Assessment||This framework will be fully delivered and assessed at college in a sheltered environment. Assessments will includes practical activities, observations, on-line tests and mini assignments.
|Progression||Potential job roles include: Metal Working and Machine Operative, Quality Control, CNC Operator, Maintenance Operative, Process Operator.
Progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship will be dependent on a number of requirements including excellent attendance, attitude and behaviour, achievement of the level 2 framework in a timely manner and the desire to achieve whatever it takes to be successful at the next level. Your job role must cover the requirements of the NVQ level 3 qualification for you to progress, this will be discussed with your assessor and employer. Please be aware there is an expectation to achieve level 2 functional skills or equivalent in English, Maths and ICT.|
