IntroductionThis is a one year full-time course for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the uniformed services such as the Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison/Probation Services, Army, Navy and Air Force, or wishing to progress to higher education. It is equivalent to one A Level.
Study OutlineStudents on this course will study five units: Government, Policies and the Public Services; Leadership and Teamwork; Citizenship and Diversity; Understanding Discipline in the Public Services; Fitness Testing and Training. Your study programme will be a combination of classroom-based learning, with practical sessions and residential trips.
Entry Requirements5 GCSEs at grade C or above including one from English, Maths or Double Science or Level 2 qualification in Public Services.
EquipmentYou will need indoor and outdoor sports kit/footwear
AttendanceOne year, full-time course.
AssessmentThis course is made up of a combination of practical and theoretical study with continuous assessment, written assignments and evidence gained from residential trips and the comprehensive programme of visiting speakers from the Public Services.
ProgressionThe BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification designed to give you a good understanding of the working practices of all the Public Services. You can either seek employment or progress onto a BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Subject to meeting relevant progression criteria).
