IntroductionThe BTEC First Extended Certificate in Performing Arts is an exciting introduction to the world of performance. It aims to develop the practical skills and experience of learners and enable them to progress onto higher level courses in their chosen specialism.
Study OutlineThe course looks at a range of units and will build skills in acting, dancing and singing. These skills will then be applied in a number of different units including Musical Theatre, Devising Plays, Physical Theatre, Movement Skills, Performing Scripted Plays and Performing Arts Industry. Classes will be a mix of practical and theoretical and many performance opportunities will be available throughout the year.
Entry Requirements4 GCSEs grade D or above. All applicants will be interviewed and take part in a practical audition. The audition process will involve a short performance of either a monologue, song or dance. The performance will be the choice of the applicant.
EquipmentAll successful applicants will need to wear the correct rehearsal clothing and appropriate footwear for practical work. Further details will be given out during induction week.
AttendanceThe Level 2 Extended Certificate is a full time course and will last for one year. Learners will be expected to attend some evening and weekend rehearsals and performance in addition to the routine of weekly classes.
AssessmentAssessment is through the process of continuous assessment and covers both written and practical work. You will be given an assignment brief to work from for each unit. The majority of units are internally assessed. There will be one computer test for Performing Arts Industry and a recorded external performance which will be sent off to an examiner.
ProgressionAfter completing the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Performing Arts you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Performing Arts. Alternatively you could choose to progress into employment.
