|Introduction||The BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Music is a course focusing on the fundamental elements of music for both musicians & music technologists.
There are two paths to choose from on the course; you may study as either a performer or technologist. Either route will have you involved in exciting and true-to-industry music projects, playing, writing and producing many different styles of music, as well as developing skills for self-promotion and professional development as a modern musician.
|Study Outline||Studying as a performer:
-You will be able to enhance your instrumental technique
-You will be able to take part in band rehearsals
-You will be able to perform in live shows regularly
Studying as a technologist:
- You will be able to work with equipment and some of the programmes used by working professionals, such as Logic and Cubase.
-You will be able to develop skills in using professional equipment such as Mixing Desks, Microphones & P.A. systems.
The Level 2 Technical Diploma in Music offers all learners the opportunity to develop their skills and capabilities as they begin their career in music. |
|Entry Requirements||-4 GCSEs at intermediate grades (Preferably including Maths and English)
-Alternative equivalent qualification (e.g. BTEC Level 1 qualification)
-To pass an audition/interview (the requirements of this will be sent in a letter once you have applied.)|
|Equipment||You will be expected to supply a certain amount of your own equipment, including:
-Instrument (if performer)
-Jack-to-jack lead (If guitar, bass or keyboard player)
-Guitar tuner (if guitar or bass player)
-Drum sticks (if drummer)
-Cymbals (if drummer)
-Pen, pencil and notepad for taking notes in lessons
-Music Notation paper (for music theory lessons)
-8GB USB Flash Drive/Memory Stick
|Attendance||The course is a full-time program of study, requiring attendance three days a week from 9:00-5:00. Attendance for sessions is compulsory.|
|Assessment||Whether studying as a performer or technologist, you will undertake the following units:
-Music Performance OR Music Production
-Self-Promotion in the Music Industry
Following completion of these units, final assessment will take place in the form of a controlled external assessment.This assessment will form the final unit of the course, and successful completion of all 6 units of work will allow you to achieve the qualification.
|Progression||The course is designed as a means to build skills and experience before moving on to either a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music, or a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology.
The course is also appropriate for progression onto apprenticeships and work placements. |
|Qualification||Following successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Music from BTEC.
Please note: you will achieve the same qualification - a Technical Diploma - whether you choose to study Performance or Technology.
Please note: It is no longer possible to achieve a Level 1 qualification through this course. |
