IntroductionThis study programme includes the full range of routine vehicle fitting procedures. It provides essential knowledge and skills for vehicle fitters working on a wide range of vehicles in all types of garages, dealerships and fast fit businesses. We offer this study programme as a stepping stone to students achieving level 1 but wishing to progress.
Study OutlineIt provides learners with the opportunity to study both the theory and practical aspects of some of the following: Inspecting, repairing and replacing high performance light vehicle and motorcycle tyres. Carrying out light vehicle front wheel alignment. Inspecting and replacing light vehicle clutches, exhaust components, suspension dampers, vehicle batteries and braking systems. Safe use of oxy-acetylene. Assessing and securing a roadside situation. Learners will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Entry RequirementsSuccessful completion of a Level 1 motor vehicle course, GCSE Grades A - C, initial assessment, Level 1 - Level 2 in English and Maths, good attendance.
EquipmentYou will require steel toe cap boots, overalls, pen/pencil, notepad/folder and a memory stick. In addition for body and paint students you will require an industry standard face mask for when painting in the booth (this is a personal piece of equipment-not to be shared).
AttendanceYou will be required to attend 3 days per week as this is a full-time course, an attendance rate of 95% is essential. It is compulsory for you to attend all sessions including English and Maths functional skills and work experience.
AssessmentYou will be assessed carrying out a number of practical tasks in the workshop; there will also be in-class verbal and written assessments and a number of on-line assessments for all of your study programme elements (including English and Maths).
ProgressionOn successful completion of your study programme including English and Maths your next step will be to progress onto one of our level 2 Maintenance and repair diploma study programmes or into a vehicle fitting apprenticeship. This will be in addition to a high level of commitment, effort, positive attitude and good attendance.
