|Introduction||This qualification covers the processes and practices involved in designing electrical installations. The emphasis is on the safe and ergonomic design of an installation which complies with relevant statutes, regulations, industry standards and sound engineering practices.|
|Study Outline||This qualification comprises of a single knowledge unit which covers design calculations and the application of BS 7671 and related statutory and non-statutory requirements and guidance in the safe design of an installation.|
|Entry Requirements||Learners must be at least 16 years old. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, learners must have the potential to achieve all aspects of the qualification. In particular, learners should be able to demonstrate that they have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy required for the completion of the learning outcomes and the assessments.
A current Level 3 award in requirements of Electrical Installations BS 7671 and a Level 3 award in Initial verification and periodic inspection would be recommended.

|Equipment||A current copy of BS 7671, Guidance Notes 1, Guidance Notes 3 and a current copy of the IET On Site Guide, coloured pens, A4 paper and calculator. |
|Attendance||Attendance is on a Monday daytime from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.|
|Assessment||1) An EAL set centre marked project
Learners real world projects which evidence the assessment criteria to the equivalent
2) A written controlled knowledge assessment which is graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Fail.|
|Progression||We also offer a range of other industry-relevant short courses, which learners can progress on to study. These include Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification of Electrical Installations, as well as the Level 4 Award in the Design of Electrical Installations.|
