IntroductionThis course combines the EAL 4337 Level 3 Initial Verification award; which gives the learner an understanding of the theory and practice of the initial verification and commissioning of both single and three phase electrical installations, with the EAL 4338 Level 3 Periodic Inspection level 3 award. The 4338 award gives the learner an understanding of the theory and practice of periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting, of both single and three phase electrical installations. Both qualifications follow BS 7671 and the industry recognised IET Guidance Note 3, as well as the Electrical Safety Council's Best Practice Guides.
Study OutlineThe 4337 award - The application of knowledge involved with the inspection and testing of new electrical installations. It has one unit, covering safe isolation, initial verification requirements, inspection, testing and certification. The 4338 award - The application of knowledge involved with the periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations. It has one unit, covering safe isolation, condition reporting requirements, periodic inspection and testing, interpreting test results and certification.
Entry RequirementsWhile there are no formal entry requirements for this course, applicants will ideally hold a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation. In most cases, learners will be working in the electrotechnical trade, or have recent similar experience. A good standard of English and maths will be necessary. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure if this is an appropriate qualification for you!
EquipmentEquipment required will include an up to date BS 7671 wiring regulations, a copy of the IET On Site Guide, a copy of the IET Guidance Note 3, calculator, A4 paper and coloured pens.
AttendanceThursday evenings 6-9pm.
AssessmentOne open book on screen exam and one centre marked practical assessment for each award. All assessments are conducted on college premises.
ProgressionEAL Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations.
QualificationEAL 600/4337/4 Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations. EAL 600/4338/6 Level 3 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations.
