|Introduction||This award gives the learner an understanding of the theory and practice of the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, commonly referred to as PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing).
The award follows the industry recognised IET Code of Practice published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. It provides a facility for individuals to develop and/or enhance their knowledge and skills so they can inspect electrical equipment which is 'in-service'.|
|Study Outline||This award covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. The award has one unit which covers: statutory and non-statutory requirements, electrical units, equipment construction, inspection and testing theory, practical inspection and testing of equipment and completion of documentation.|
|Entry Requirements||Learners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of learning outcomes and the assessments. |Equipment||An up to date version of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, pens, paper and a calculator.|
|Attendance||Attendance is on a Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.|
|Assessment||One open book on-screen exam and one Centre marked practical task all carried out on college premises.|
|Progression||We also offer a range of other industry-relevant short courses, which learners can progress on to study. These include Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification of Electrical Installations as well as the Level 4 Award in the Design of Electrical Installations.|
