IntroductionThis award gives the learner an understanding of the theory and practice of the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment, commonly referred to as PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing). The award follows the industry recognised IET Code of Practice published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology. It provides a facility for individuals to develop and/or enhance their knowledge and skills so they can inspect electrical equipment which is 'in-service'.
Study OutlineThis award covers the skills and knowledge required to carry out the in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. The award has one unit which covers: statutory and non-statutory requirements, electrical units, equipment construction, inspection and testing theory, practical inspection and testing of equipment and completion of documentation.
Entry RequirementsLearners must have the minimum levels of literacy and numeracy to comply with the health and safety aspects of the scheme, the completion of learning outcomes and the assessments. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure if this is an appropriate qualification for you!
EquipmentAn up to date version of the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, pens, paper and a calculator.
AttendanceAttendance is on a Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.
AssessmentOne open book on-screen exam and one Centre marked practical task all carried out on college premises.
ProgressionWe also offer a range of other industry-relevant short courses, which learners can progress on to study. These include Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification of Electrical Installations as well as the Level 4 Award in the Design of Electrical Installations.
