IntroductionLearners will gain a full insight into the construction industry and gain the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve a Level 2 qualification in Brickwork. Work experience opportunities will be arranged for this study programme with must be attended. these will give you an awareness to the employability skills required for work in the construction sector.
Study OutlineOn the course you will study: Health, Safety and welfare that will cover your own and employers responsibilities and the Principles of building construction, information and communication that will cover topics in: Types of building information; Environmental considerations; Construction of foundations; Construction of internal and external walls; Construction of floors; Construction of roofs and Communication using terminology for construction scientific and engineering principles.
Entry RequirementsLearners will have to have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying or equivalent and attend an interview with a member of the Brickwork team. If you are a returning learner we will expect you to have achieved a minimum of 95% attendance in your previous year and achieved all aspects of your study programme including English and maths.
EquipmentLearners will have to provide their own stationery equipment including writing paper, pens, HB and 2H pencils, lever arch file, Architects scale rule, Personal Protective equipment to include high-Vis vest, safety boots/shoes and recommended textbooks.
AttendanceLearners will be required to attend 3 days per week and it is compulsory to attend all sessions, including English and maths functional skills. The attendance rate expected for the year is 95%.
AssessmentAssessment is ongoing via completion of coursework and portfolio and awarding body set examinations.
ProgressionSuccessful completion of the study programme could lead onto the Diploma Level 3 Bricklaying course, into a intermediate trowel apprenticeship or into employment. To progress in college there is an expectation that you have excellent attendance, attitude and behavior record.
