|Introduction||This course will enable learners to gain an insight into basic carpentry techniques and skills.|
|Study Outline||The study programme is designed for students who work or want to work as a carpenter or joiner in the construction sector. It allows students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in carpentry or joinery.
The course covers the following work skills and job knowledge: producing basic woodworking joints, safely using various hand and power tools, principles of building construction, information and communication and Health & Safety and welfare in construction.
|Entry Requirements||Entry requirements are ideally GCSE Grade D or above and through initial diagnostic assessment. Learners will also have to attend an interview with a member of the construction team.|
|Equipment||Learners will have to provide their own stationery equipment and safety footwear.|
|Attendance||One year, three full days per week. You must attend all elements of the study programme including English, Maths, tutorials and work experience, the expectation is 95%.|
|Assessment||Assessment is via completion of coursework and portfolio and awarding body set examinations.|
|Progression||Successful completion of the course could lead onto the Diploma Level 2 Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery. You must have a positive attitude towards your learning, have a good attendance rate and display excellent behaviour.
NVQ Level 2 Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery if you are working in the industry and meeting the set criteria.|
