IntroductionIf you have an eye for detail and love practical, hands-on work then this may be the course is for you. The Construction sector as a whole is facing a skills shortage, meaning there will be plenty of jobs available for those skilled in their trade!
Study OutlineExamples of units you may cover will include: Health and Safety, Principles of construction, First fix, Second fix, Maintenace and Fixed Table Saw. This course has a bias of practical sessions focussed on raising skill levels ready for entry to the workplace. There will also be theory sessions to underpin and broaden your knowledge of the industry. There is a requirement as part of the course framework to improve English and Maths skills, this combined with the technical qualification offers a strong component to any CV.
Entry RequirementsEntry requirements are ideally GCSE Grade D or above and through initial diagnostic assessment. Learners will also have to attend an interview with a member of the construction team
EquipmentStationery equipment and Personal Protective equipment to include high-vis vest, safety boots/shoes and recommended textbooks.
AttendanceOne year, three days per week.
AssessmentAssessment is via completion of coursework and portfolio, practical assessments, a practical phase test and an end of year course exam.
ProgressionSuccessful completion of the course will lead onto Diploma Level 3 in Site Carpentry.
