IntroductionThis course will enable learners to gain an insight into basic carpentry techniques and skills.
Study Outlinethe study program is designed for candidates who work or want to work as a carpenter or joiner in the construction sector. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in carpentry or joinery.The course covers the following skills: Producing basic woodworking joints, and safely using various hand and power tools.
Entry RequirementsEntry requirements are ideally GCSE at Grade D or above and through initial diagnostic assessment. Learners will also have to attend an interview with a member of the construction team.
EquipmentLearners will have to provide their own stationery equipment and recomended books.
AttendanceOne year, three full days per week.
AssessmentAssessment is via completion of coursework and portfolio and awarding body set examinations.
ProgressionSuccessful completion of the course will lead onto the Diploma Level 2 Carpentry. If working in industry and meeting set criteria, NVQ Level 2 carpentry.
