IntroductionThe HNC gives students a broad range of IT skills needed to work in the business and IT industry. You will learn about programming and building a computer, systems design and programming.
Study OutlineThe HNC is a part time evening course delivered over two years. It is broken down into eight units delivered throughout the two years. All units will require a significant amount of private study designed to develop both your technical and communication skills. Each unit will require the submission of an assignment based on the semesters content. Your assignment will be graded with a pass, merit or distinction with all units counting towards your final HNC. Entry RequirementsIdeally you should have studied Information Technology (IT)/ Computing at Level 3, but candidates with suitable experience or a strong desire to learn more about this industry will be considered. You will require: GCSE English and GCSE Maths at Grade C or above And either: 1 GCE A Levels (A*-C grades) Relevant BTEC Level 3 qualification in IT at Merit Access to Higher Education Certificate Or equivalent IT experience All applicants will require an initial assessment and interview by a member of the lecturing team.

AttendanceYou will normally attend around 6 hours of timetabled taught sessions (lectures and tutorials) each week, and we expect you to undertake at least 7 further hours of independent study to complete project work and research.
AssessmentYou will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work and self-directed study. Assessment is through coursework (presentations, essays and reports).
ProgressionAfter successfully completing the course you will be able to progress on to an HND in Computing, or the 2nd year of a degree, or gain employment in an IT role.
