IntroductionThis is a practical hands on course based in purpose built labs within the college. You will learn all the elements that a real IT Support Technician needs to know to do their job. The course covers troubleshooting PC problems and replacing faulty PC components. Installing and configuring different operating systems and software that is found on modern computer systems. You will also learn software applications including web design, spreadsheet modelling and programming.
Study OutlineThe units you will be studying include: • Communication in IT (Mandatory) • Working in IT (Mandatory) • Hardware • Computer Systems • Spreadsheet Modelling • Programming • Website Development You will also complete a programme of Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and Maths. English and maths skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.
Entry RequirementsYou will require one of the following: • 4 GCSE Grade 3 • Level 1 Diploma in Progression (IT/Media) or an equivalent qualification This is ideally suited for those students who have a passion for working with IT.
EquipmentStationery including a memory stick.
AttendanceWe expect a minimum of 90% attendance.
AssessmentAll units are assessed through assignment work either individually or in groups. There are no exams. All assessments will be graded as either Pass, Merit or Distinction.
ProgressionAt SLC: Upon completion of this course you can progress onto the OCR Extended Diploma in IT - Level 3.
QualificationYou will achieve an OCR Diploma in Information Technology at Level 2.
