IntroductionDo you want to work with children and play an important part in their education and development? This Apprenticeship will prepare you to support the teacher in a school provision and may provide opportunities to lead activities. The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools(QCF) qualification consists of 11 mandatory units; some examples below:- Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults Promote Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour. Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Work with Children and Young People. Support Assessment for learning. Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety Understand Child and Young Person Development Understand How to Safeguarding the Wellbeing of Children and Young People With a choice of approximately four options units to obtain a minimum credit value of 44 credits to achieve this overall qualification.
Study OutlineFramework requirements for the Advanced apprenticeship comprise of the following – Pearson’s Edexcel Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (STALIS) Pearson’s Btec Level 2 Understanding Employment responsibilities and rights in Children and Young People's Settings (ERR) Level 2 OCR Functional skill in English Level 2 OCR Functional skills in Math's Level 2 OCR Functional skills in Information and Communications Technology
Entry RequirementsFormal entry requirements for the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in School are assessed within initial assessments and expectations would be that English, Math's and ICT results would be at Level 1 at least to be taken on to undertake this study programme.
EquipmentThe equipment required to complete the Apprenticeship would be outlined by the employer and assessor dependent on the provision undertaking the qualification within.
AttendanceAn assessor would be allocated to undertake the varying framework components within the work place and would generally visit at least once a month.
AssessmentAs the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in School qualification requires confirmation of occupational competency. The learner will be allocated an assessor where they will be observed in the work place undertaking planned tasks. Without this aspect the learner would not achieve the qualification as competency cannot be demonstrated. A portfolio of evidence for this part of the qualification would also be undertaken where assignments would be set under the direction of the assessor. Understanding Employment responsibilities and rights in Children and Young People's Settings this component would be delivered through the Training Development Agency (TDA) workbook. All three aspects of the functional skills will be delivered within the workplace provision through a support platform of BKSB and varying resources to support the individuals learning style, which will lead to exams to complete these overall components.
ProgressionAt University: Once the above level 3 qualification’s has been achieved then there are opportunities to go onto a Higher Level Teaching assistant course (HLTA) or the Foundation degree. At Work: Will achieve employer ability skills and experience of working within the school sector.
QualificationUpon successful completion of the course you will achieve the overall Apprenticeship Framework for Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in School, which is clarified in the study outline.
