IntroductionThe Foundation Degree in Early Childhood (for those with experience and working regularly with children from birth - 7 years). The Foundation Degree (FdA) is a Level 5 intermediate degree qualification. It is aimed at those who wish to combine study with work commitments. It provides an opportunity to develop a range of professional, academic and key skills, which will be of value in early years settings. Study OutlineModules include: Contemporary issues in Early Childhood, Foundations for learning and Learning and Development from Birth, Safety and Risk in Learning Spaces, Researching Early Childhood, up to level 5, with the remaining modules being delivered directly at the Warwick Campus as part of the Honors route.
Entry RequirementsNVQ 3 or equivalent is a distinct advantage. Applications are considered on individual merit but candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to work at degree level, experienced Early Years Practitioner are also encouraged. Computer skills would be a distinct advantage, although support and training are on-going throughout your studies.
EquipmentYou will be advised at interview.
AttendanceThe Foundation Degree is part-time and usually takes three years to complete. Learners are required to attend all modules to be eligible to progress and pass the module. The day and time of study may change across the 3 years, but will usually be Thursday 1pm - 7pm with a minimum of two sessions being delivered at the Warwick campus on a Saturday.
AssessmentAssessment will be through a combination of work-based learning, tasks, presentations, assignments.
ProgressionA Certificate may be awarded after completion of 120 credits (FHEQ Level 4 if students do not wish to proceed to FHEQ Level 5). FdA qualification at FHEQ level 5 and opportunity to progress FHEQ level 6 at the Warwick campus. This qualification offers preparation towards an HONS Degree and is an important pathway toward teaching and other professional careers.
