|Introduction||The Foundation Degree in Early Childhood (for those with experience and working regularly with children from birth - 7 years). The Foundation Degree (FdA) is a Level 5 intermediate degree qualification. It is aimed at those who wish to combine study with work commitments. It provides an opportunity to develop a range of professional, academic and key skills, which will be of value in early years settings. |Study Outline||Modules include: Year 1:Contemporary perspectives in Early Childhood, Foundations for learning Learning and Development from Birth. Year 2: Safety and Risk in Learning Spaces, Researching Early Childhood, Policy into Practice. Year 3: Special Educational needs, Leadership and Management and Assessing and Learning, up to level 5. To gain the BA (Hons), remaining modules are delivered directly at the University of Warwick Campus as part of the Honors route. Support for transitioning to working at degree level are on-going throughout your studies.|
|Entry Requirements||NVQ 3 or equivalent is a distinct advantage. Applications are considered on individual merit, but candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to work at degree level. Experienced Early Years Practitioner are also encouraged. Computer skills would be a distinct advantage. |
|Equipment||You will be advised at interview.|
|Attendance||The Foundation Degree is part-time and usually takes three years to complete.
The Programme is delivered at NWHC Nuneaton Campus one day per week, usually twilight.
Students also attend Saturday School, which occurs twice a term and is held at the University of Warwick main campus (6 occasions between October and June).|
|Assessment||All Modules are Coursework Assessed. There are no exams.
Assessment methods are a variety of: Presentations, Essays, Reflective accounts and Case Studies.
|Progression||A Certificate may be awarded after completion of 120 credits (FHEQ Level 4 if students do not wish to proceed to FHEQ Level 5). FdA qualification at FHEQ level 5 and opportunity to progress FHEQ level 6 at the Warwick campus. This qualification offers preparation towards an HONS Degree and is an important pathway toward teaching and other professional careers. The Degree is also tailored for a specialist pathway of either Special Educational Needs, Leadership and Management or Assessment which can be chosen or students can choose to stay with Early Childhood as the main title of their award.|
