|Introduction||This course will provide students with the opportunity to study the broad and stimulating field of Photography. The course provides a sound technical background and will help students develop both commercial and personally creative work. Students will work with both traditional methods of image making as well as digital methods. All photography students will have access to our specialised equipment and facilities.|
|Study Outline||You will study a range of photographic units surrounding themes such as portraiture, college life and magazine covers. Through completing these projects you will gain knowledge of photographic techniques and processes whilst being required to develop ideas and concepts that can be communicated through a photograph.
Specialist units focus on the use of digital manipulation software such as Photoshop and Lightroom, studio lighting techniques, specific location techniques and camera control.|
|Entry Requirements||Applicants should be 16+ at entry with a minimum of 4 GCSEs (at C or above) or any other equivalent and relevant qualification. A portfolio of work showing evidence of creativity and commitment is required at interview.|
|Equipment||A Digital SLR Camera and 35mm SLR is desirable but not essential.|
|Attendance||The National Foundation Diploma is one year, full-time. The Extended Diploma is one further year, full-time.|
|Assessment||Assessment will be through work checks, critiques, tutor and learner reviews, formal assessment of portfolio.
Four units are internally assessed, two units are externally assessed.|
|Progression||Students who successfully complete the National Foundation Diploma will progress into the second year to work towards the Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Photography). It may be also possible to progress into a basic level employment within the photographic industry.
Students who successfully complete the Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Photography) can move on to a higher programme of study either within the College or at university, or gain employment within the photographic industry.
