|Introduction||BTEC Higher Nationals are designed to provide a specialist vocational programme, linked to professional body requirements and National Occupational Standards where appropriate, with a strong work related emphasis. The qualifications provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in their sector and their national recognition by employers allows progression direct into employment.|
|Study Outline||The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Photography is a 16 unit qualification of which five are core units. The photographic department offers excellent facilities along with extensive and thorough training in both practical and theoretical aspects of the medium, giving you a strong foundation to further your future career in the industry. As well as a black and white darkroom we have a fully equipped Apple Mac suite providing the latest imaging software and an industry level studio with an infinity cove and high-glide lighting system. During you time studying with us you will develop your skills and knowledge in a wide range of photographic techniques and genres while working on projects that interest you. You will also be given the opportunity to take part in commissioned real-world projects. The staff delivering this programme have experience in diverse range of photographic practice.|
|Entry Requirements||240 UCAS points which can be gained from the following qualifications: BTEC Nat Cert or Dip in Photography or Art & Design, AVCE/Advanced GNVQ, GCSE Advanced level profile with strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCSE. Profile to be supported by GCSEs at A* to C, other Level 3 qualification, or Access to HE Certificate.

|Equipment||Although learners will be supplied with equipment they will be expected to own a good digital SLR camera of their own.|
|Attendance||Two years, full-time. Part-time options are also available.|
|Assessment||All units will be individually graded as pass, merit or distinction. To achieve a pass grade for the unit learners must meet the assessment criteria set out in the BTEC programme specifications.|
|Progression||Successful completion of the course can lead directly into employment or onto the third year of a level 6 programme.|
