IntroductionThe Extended Diploma is the second year course that successful students from the National Foundation Diploma in Art & Design progress on to. The year will give students the the opportunity to explore their subject and develop skills and techniques that will help them in progressing to university or a career in art & design.
Study OutlineOn this course you are able to try out a wide range of creative subjects to allow you to decide what subject you would like to specialise in during the later part of the year. You will be able to explore subjects including: Fine Art, Drawing Development, Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, Digital Media, Filmmaking, Animation, Fashion and Textiles. After exploring a range of creative approaches you are then able to specialise to allow you to produce a portfolio of Art & Design work.
Entry RequirementsCompletion of the National Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, but other students may be considered.
EquipmentA range of Art equipment is available to purchase at the shop located at the Hinckley Campus at cost price.
AttendanceFull-time, normally 3 or 4 days a week, dependent on requirements for English and maths.
AssessmentAssessment will be through work checks, critiques, tutor and learner reviews, formal assessment of portfolio. Five units are internally assessed, two units are externally assessed. Students are required to record their project development in an appropriate format for each assignment e.g. sketchbook. Progress is monitored by continuous assessment procedures. Students receive regular feedback at assessment points during the course. Students will be required to complete all units and the points scored on this programme, combined with the grades awarded on the National Foundation Diploma will form the end grade.
ProgressionThe Extended Diploma course is a recognised route of entry to Higher Education (degree courses) and can allow for entry to creative careers within your chosen specialist area (Photography, Graphic Design and Fine Art careers).
