|Introduction||The Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Art and Design course offers a flexible inroad to the Creative Industries, giving a broad approach to learning, through a series of interrelated subjects.
The course sets out to stimulate individual development and to afford learners a practical and theoretical understanding of Art and Design processes. It aims to equip the learner with identification, analysis, problem solving, creative and technical skills, to enable them to make informed decisions with regard to their future progression into industry or higher education.
Successful completion of the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Art and Design opens up the opportunity for learners to progress onto the BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design|
|Study Outline||During year 1 learners will develop their skills and knowledge through working in a variety of Art & Design specialist areas including: Fine Art Painting / Printing / Sculpture, Visual Recording, Life Drawing, Ideas & Concepts, Fashion, Graphics, Photography, Ceramics, Glass, Interior Design.

Sketch Books (Various Sizes 1 per subject area) Ruler, Fine Liners (black and assorted colours), Pencils 2H, H, B, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, Coloured Pencils, Eraser, Masking Tape and Double Sided Tape, Glue Stick, Scissors, Paint Brushes, Art Material Storage Box / Tool Box, Portfolio Case, Photographic Paper, Felt Tip & Marker Pens, Compass, Paint Palette, Note Pad, Mount Board for presentation of completed work, Fixative or a can of hair spray, Pot of glue PVA, Putty rubber, Gouache / Acrylic paint set, Household size paint brushes, Oil pastels, Chalks, Charcoal

Not all equipment is required for the first day of term. These materials can be built up over the early part of the year as required.|
|Attendance||The Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is a full time course which is delivered over 3-4 days per week with an additional private study day.|
|Assessment||Assessment will be through work checks, critiques, tutor and learner reviews, formal assessment of portfolio. Four units are internally assessed, two units are externally assessed. Students are required to record their project development in an appropriate format for each assignment e.g. sketchbook. Progress is monitored by continuous assessment procedures. Students receive regular feedback at assessment points during the course. Students will be required to complete all units and the points scored on assessments will be used to calculate their final grade.|
