IntroductionThis is a QAA approved qualification at Level 3 to provide Access to Higher Education for those learners seeking a career in a Social Science or Humanities area. The course is a one year course that enables 19+ learners to be able to study full-time at NWHC and then progress to university to study on a 3 year degree course. Whether you are looking to progress your career, or change direction, this course can provide you with the platform you need. Access to Higher Education courses can be funded through a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan. If you take out an Advanced Learning Loan to study an Access to Higher Education course, the loan will be written off once you complete a subsequent Higher Education course.
Study OutlineYou will study a range of Social Science based modules that have been chosen to facilitate progression to a relevant university course and include: Psychology; Study Skills; Law; Sociology; Criminology You will also have a personal tutor and a weekly group tutorial meeting.
Entry RequirementsFor full-time study you are required to pass the Access initial assessment. There may be the requirement for additional studies for those students who need to gain GCSE English or Maths qualifications at grade C or above. Please note - Students are advised to check the university entry requirements, including GCSE requirements and Access diploma, for the course that they are interested in.

AttendanceFull time is 3-4 days per week 9.00am - 3.30pm
AssessmentAssessment is a mix of coursework and examinations
ProgressionStudents who achieve the Diploma can be accepted for university degrees through NWHC or a university, in professions such as Social Work or subject based degrees such as Sociology; Psychology; History; English Literature; Law.
