Board Members

tim_render_120_01Tim Render (Chair)
A chartered public finance accountant and a trained town planner, Tim retired as Director of Finance for a major local authority in 2008, He now works as a consultant helping councils in the Midlands and London to put together and deliver plans for renewing and rebuilding their secondary schools. He is also an independent member of Leicestershire Police Authority. Tim chairs the Board of Corporation and is a member of the Search and Remuneration Committees.

 

jerry_hutchinson_120_01Jerry Hutchinson (Vice Chair)
Jerry is a Local Authority Chief Executive and is a solicitor. In addition to his legal background, he brings strategic management experience, a strong interest in the wider local community and an understanding of the public sector to the Board. Jerry is Vice-chair of the Corporation and a member of the Search and Remuneration Committees.

 

sue_beckett_120Sue Beckett
Sue started her working life as a primary school teacher, moved on to supporting children with statements of special educational needs in mainstream schools and ended as a trainer and consultant for safeguarding issues in nurseries, schools, colleges and universities, as well as training in the multi-disciplinary context for the local Safeguarding Children’s Board. In becoming a Board Member Sue is able use her contacts, skills and experience to benefit the College. Sue is the Member with special responsibility for safeguarding and sits on the Search Committee.

 

paul_cashian_120Paul Cashian
Paul is Associate Dean (Student Experience) in the Faculty of Business, Environment and Society at Coventry University. He has worked in Higher Education for 20 years and prior to this spent 6 years as a lecturer in FE. Paul has a wide ranging experience of HE covering curriculum design, quality assurance, academic management and working with collaborative partners. His discipline area is business Economics, but current research centres around issues of graduate employability and HE policy. Paul was appointed to the Board in September 2010.

Kath is a Chartered Management Accountant and Finance Director for ARRK Europe Ltd. the largest pattern, tool and model maker in the UK. A Member since July 2009, Kath sits on the Audit Committee, the Finance Task and Finish Group and the Governance Framework Task and Finish Group.

 

martin_cooper_120Martin Cooper (Staff Member)    
Martin has been in Education for 27 years of which 25 have been in FE as a Lecturer in Business Studies, Senior Lecturer with a Marketing Remit and as a Manager and Head of a variety of Curriculum Areas for the last 15 years. Previously a Governor at the Hinckley College post incorporation 1992-1996, Martin joined the current Board as a Staff Member in February 2009 and brings with him a wealth of experience in further education. Martin also sits on the Audit Committee.

 

mike_coult_120Mike Coult
Mike is a chartered public finance accountant and has worked in local government for 38 years. He is employed by Coventry City Council, leading the Transformation Programme Office. Mike joined the Corporation in September 2010 and is a member of the Audit Committee and Finance Task and Finish Group

 

marion_plant_120Marion Plant OBE (Principal and CEO)
Before being appointed Principal and Chief Executive of North Warwickshire & Hinckley College in 2004, Marion was VP (Curriculum and Quality) at the College.  Prior to joining the College she had six years senior management experience in Birmingham colleges and came to FE after a career in the NHS as a registered general nurse, a registered midwife and a health visitor.

 

john_moore_120John Moore
John spent 28 years in the vehicle manufacture industry. His career path moved into the Human Resources function and in the final 15 years of his career John worked in the main stream Human Resources function, his career culminating in the position of Human Resources Manager. John is currently the Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee, the Governance Framework Task and Finish Group and the Hinckley Campus Task and Finish Group.

 

sue_palaganda_120Sue Palaganda
Sue was born and educated in India. She came to Britain in 1986 and joined the voluntary sector in 1994 and took up her current position as the Chief Officer of Volunteer Centre - Nuneaton & Bedworth in July 2000.  She has been a Member of the Corporation since 2003, is a member of the Search Committee and has special responsibility for equality and diversity.

Allan was appointed to the Board in September 2010. Currently working as General Manager - Customer Services, he has created a culture of continuous improvement resulting in improving service levels for Severn Trent customers. Allan’s experience of a wide range of operational and strategic roles in the Utilities, Retail and Finance sectors enables him to bring a multi disciplined approach to the Board.

Lee is Chief Executive of Midland Group Training Services. Lee brings to the Corporation a wealth of expertise in linking government policy to commercial activity from an employer’s point of view. Lee is currently the Chair of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Governance Framework Task and Finish Group.

 

Bill Collins
bill_120Completing a formal apprenticeship with a machine tool manufacturing company and graduating from Aston University, Bill pursued a career in engineering; first as a service engineer, then as sales and service manager and then, following redundancy, forming and running a successful sub-contract manufacturing company, as its managing director.
Bill joined NWHC in 1999 as a part time engineering assessor, then became a full time assessor and (except for a few months when he worked for a private training provider), has moved from an assessing role to that of technology lecturer.
Bill was elected to the board as a staff member in October 2011, bringing with him a wealth of engineering management experience and expertise.

 

Chris Garnham
chriss2_120Chris is a retired police officer concluding his career as an Assistant Chief Constable by leading the police change programme in Leicestershire. He has a broad understanding of Leicester and Leicestershire, spending 6 years as the most senior police officer for the West of Leicestershire and then the City of Leicester. Chris started his working life as an engineer completing his apprenticeship before working in Nuneaton then joining the police in 1981.

 

Tom Gordon
Tom has been a student at the College since tom_120September 2008 and is currently studying an extended diploma in Health Studies; he is in his second year. Tom has also studied 2 business courses, English and maths GCSEs, and subsidiary diploma in Health and Social Care at the College.
Tom was appointed as a Student Member in October 2012 and regularly attends Corporation meetings. In addition to his role as a Member, Tom acts as guide to visitors to the College, attends open evenings and has been involved in interview panels to give the student perspective.

 

Peter Lavender OBE
peter_120Peter is deputy chief executive at NIACE where he has worked since 1999.  He spent five years as a full-time Further Education inspector; an advisor to the committee of inquiry into provision for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and one of the authors of the report Inclusive Learning (HMSO, 1996).  Peter has been a school teacher, a county coordinator for adult basic skills, a local authority officer for people of all ages with special educational needs, and an Open University research supervisor.
