Doorway Charity Receives Donation From NWHC Students

Our students from North Warwickshire & Hinckley College were proud to present a cheque to Homeless charity Doorway this week.

Our Foundation Learning students hosted a range of fundraising events, including a raffle and an afternoon tea, and they raised a total of £265.88 for their chosen charity. They also collected items of clothing, food and kitchenware.

Representatives from Doorway visited the Nuneaton Campus on Thursday,  21th June, to receive their donations. Carol Gallagher from Doorway said: Thank you to all of the students for their hard work. It’s fantastic what they have done and these donations will help so many young people.

Susan Strong, Foundation Learning Lecturer at the College told us that: Each year as part of the Foundation Learning programme, we pick a charity to support. Students will then organise a number of fundraising activities as part of their Enterprise unit. It’s a great way for them to develop their communication skills and gain experience in supporting the local community. After talking about how many homeless people they see in and around the town centre, the students decided to choose the local charity Doorway. Their passion for supporting young homeless people has really shone through and we are very proud of their work.

Doorway offers a range of services to advise and support young people aged 16 – 25 who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Visit their website to find out more.

The Foundation Learning programme at the College provides support plans for students aged 16-24 years, helping them to develop a range of important social, academic and vocational skills while encouraging independent living and employability.
