Level 2 Creative Digital Media Course
This Creative Digital Media course at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College will focus on various aspects of media studies, in relation to Game Production and Animation and the specialist areas within it. You will gain an introduction to Digital Media, Games Production, Animation and Moving Image.
You will study a combination of:
- Graphic Design
- Digital Photography
- Moving Image Production (film and editing)
- Audio Design
- Computer Games Design
- Digital photography skills
- Digital image manipulation
- Sound production
- Filming processes
- Research skills
You will require two GCSEs at grade C or above, a Level 1 Diploma or A Level Certificates. It is an advantage to have an interest in one or more of the disciplines of media production: digital photography, graphic design, film & TV, e-media or games development. You will be required to have an interview.
You will need stationery (pads, pens, pencils etc.), a USB memory stick and a diary. An external hard drive (formatted to Mac) is an advantage but not essential.
The Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production is equivalent to 4 GCSEs (A*–C). After completing this course, students can progress on to Level 3 qualifications such as an Extended Diploma in Media (equivalent to 3 A level qualifications).
One year, full time.
You will be assessed in each individual module over the period of the programme. The written exam will be assessed at the end of the course.

Level 3 Games Design Course
Do you play computer games? Have you ever thought how these games are designed and structured? This Games Design course will teach you about the latest in computer games design and development, creating games from story board to final product, using the latest gaming software.
You will study a combination of:
During the course you will learn how to develop games from simple platform games through to modern 3D shooters. You will plan games from visual story board through to programming using a mixture of modules including:
- Games Design, 3D Animation
- Managing a Games Design Project
- Critical Approaches to Games and Understanding the Games Industry
You will use industry standard software including Unity, Unreal Engine, Gamemaker and Maya for 3D modelling. This course is equivalent to 3 A levels and would naturally lead onto a Games Development degree.
4 x GCSE Grade C or above Other Level 2 equivalent qualification in IT, Media or Games
A memory stick.
HNC/HND in Computing at College Higher Education at University Employment in a Games Design role.
We expect a minimum attendance of 90%.
You will study 9 units in year 1 and 9 units in year 2. You will submit coursework to meet the assessment criteria. There are no exams. You will have the opportunity to achieve a pass, merit or distinction on each unit.
In year 1 you will achieve a 90 credit diploma in Games Development (equivalent to 1.5 A Levels) In year 2 you will achieve an Extended Diploma in Games Development (equivalent to 3 A Levels)
