North Warwickshire and Hinckley College is near to finishing its ambitious new plan. The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Hub will bring together new facilities and highly trained staff. This unique environment is designed to meet the needs of 19+ SEND learners.
The Hub will open in September 2017 at the college’s Nuneaton site. It is being funded as part of a grant from Warwickshire County Council. The Hub will have a range of facilities to develop independent living skills and raise employability. There will be a training flat where students can learn how to cope in the wider world. There will also be a therapies area to help build resilience and positive mental health. Plus a working café, open to the college, visitors and other businesses.
Students based in the Hub will develop their creativity and business skills. They will design and make jewellery, art, furniture and floristry so they can start a range of upcycled furniture and clothing outlets. The Hub will be a focal point for potential employers and community organisations, who can build a relationship with Hub users. They can explore new employment, internship, work experience and community volunteering opportunities.
Students will be based at the Hub on a four-day study programme. One of those days will be a work experience placement.
