Looked After Children & Care Leavers
Are you a looked after child or a care leaver?
At North Warwickshire & Hinckley College we want you to achieve your full potential, so we’re committed to having support ready and available for you.
We have a wide range of courses available and our aim is to help you to find the subject that you will enjoy.
We provide a relaxed, friendly and secure environment and you will be able to make the most of small classes and support when you need it.
Education is expensive, so North Warwickshire & Hinckley College provide extra financial help to students who are in care or are care leavers. If you are 18 or under at 31st August you will be able to claim a £1200 bursary plus up to £3.00 per day lunch vouchers for every day you attend college, for the academic year.
Come and ask at reception for details. We don’t want anything to get in the way of your success, so please come to see us and find out more about the support that is available to you for you to achieve your potential.
The Student Experience Team are here to help you if you have any personal issues that might have an effect on your education. You can come and speak to us in confidence. We can liaise with your teachers or Social Worker, and we can refer you to a number of organisations that are designed to help you with specific issues. Don’t keep things bottled up! If something is bothering you make sure you come to see us straight away.
Your Personal Tutor will have regular meetings with you to ensure that you are keeping on track with your work. If necessary you can have access to a learning coach to help with your studies. We want you to succeed so we will offer termly careers appointments to ensure that you are on the right course, developing in the way you wanted and exploring progression opportunities. When the time comes we will help you with the next steps to develop your career.
Help to progress in Further Education or on to Higher Education.
If you see yourself in Higher Education we will support you through choosing the right course at the right institution and support your UCAS application. If you are successful in getting a place at Uni we will help look at how you can access funding to support your studies by working with the host University.
