How did you become an Apprentice?

I knew I wanted to go into Accountancy so I looked for the best route and thought an Accountancy Apprenticeship was the best route to get straight into practise.

How did you discover your apprenticeship?

I looked at different colleges and saw that NWHC offered the 3 year AAT, which is what I wanted to do.

AAT is a world renowned qualification for accountancy so I only wanted to do the best.

It was the quickest route and I could get money while I’m studying.

What type of roles do you undertake in the workplace/describe a typical day

I have a list of clients so I have to request paperwork, enter everything in and check with my supervisor that my work is correct.

I have been allocated a list of clients so it’s a good responsibility that I get and helps me learn a lot.

What is the most enjoyable/fun part of your job?

Meeting new people. There are a lot of new people that come and go, it’s good fun.

What do your friends think of apprenticeships? Are any of them apprentices themselves?

Yes, some of them are Apprentices doing AAT like me. They think it’s a good route, they get good pay so it’s good at a young age.

Where would you like to be in 5 years?

I will continue my study to become a chartered accountant.

How has an Apprenticeship helped you to achieve your career goals?

With chartered accountancy it’s good to have experience in the office, having the theory and having the practical to work with the cleicnts and do all the work gives me an advantage over people who have done the theory but have no practical experience of the company.

What do you feel are the main advantages of doing an Apprenticeship?

You get paid to study. You study while on the go and it sets you up for a good career.

How have the college supported you?

The college has supported me, the teachers have been great and there’s all the support you need.

What would you say to anyone considering an Apprenticeship?

Do it if you know what you want to do.
