Advice & Guidance
The Guidance Team works in partnership with the Connexions Service and is a Next Step provider for advice on learning and work. The service holds the Matrix quality award for advice and guidance services.
Impartial advice and guidance is offered on a range of issues:
Pre-Entry Advice & Guidance
You can discuss with an adviser course options and qualifications that fit in with your interests or future plans, entry requirements and progressions routes. Possible sources of financial assistance whilst studying can be discussed too.
Higher Education
If you are unsure of what to apply for, how to research your options or the process of how to apply, then call in to see an adviser at the College. We can advise also on the possible sources of funding and how to access financial support. A Higher Education fair is held every year to enable learners to find out more about options in Higher Education.
Resource Information
Computer software packages such as Kudos and Adult Directions can be used as part of a guidance interview with an adviser to make suggestions about possible careers.
Careers/Employment Choices
Discuss your interests in a job and match them to possible careers. Consider next steps after leaving College. You can talk through your ideas with a careers guidance adviser. Discuss ways to improve your CV the way in which you complete application forms and the interview process.
Students can access 'CV and application form' clinics and attend careers events organised at different times of the year. Contact the Guidance Team for details of when such events run.
Careers Library
We have an extensive careers reference library accessible to all students. It contains detailed information about career choices, higher education including university prospectuses, graduate careers, working holidays and information on job search techniques.

Drop In Service
The 'drop in service' works well for more brief advice and guidance. For more complex guidance issues, for example where you might be considering a career change, a booked appointment is recommended.
You can drop into Learner Services at both North Warwickshire and Hinckley College to make an appointment. If you study at one of the outreach centres you can access this service by speaking to a centre organiser who will arrange for a guidance advisor to visit your centre.
If you are unable to call into the College in person, feel free to phone or email us with your enquiry as we may be able to deal with it in this way.
Connexions
Based within Learner Services the three Connexions Personal Advisers aim to provide support and advice on personal and social issues as well as being able to assist learners with their careers guidance needs.
The Personal Advisers are qualified in careers guidance and offer one to one and group work support to any student aged 16 to 19 at the College. Help can be provided with education, employment and training needs as well as personal and social issues. Every effort is made to help those students that need it the most and the service is strictly confidential.
