Competition work

At North Warwickshire & Hinckley College we actively promote a competitive spirit. We feel competition work is very important as it encourages you to strive for excellence and achieve your best.

Last year over 80 North Warwickshire & Hinckley Students registered and competed in competitions regionally and nationally. A large proportion of those who entered were recognised and celebrated by successfully achieving certificates and medals.

Competitions offer significant benefits to all those who enter and support them, complimenting all teaching and learning programmes by:

  • Raising standards
  • Promoting excellence in skills
  • Injecting ambition and aspiration
  • Building confidence and self esteem
  • Putting excitement into learning and achievement

Within UKSkills regional and National competitions, the College’s learners were successful in:

  • Media Make-up 1st  (Regional)
  • Popular Music 1st and 3rd (Regional)
  • Bench Joinery 1st
  • Bricklaying 1st
  • 3rd (Regional)
  • Hairdressing 3rd (Regional)
  • Make-up Artistry 2nd (National Final)
  • 6 Media students were short listed to the final stages of Moving Image, as were 4 Moving Image students and 2 Games Development students
  • Popular Music Joint Gold and Bronze (National Final)
  • Moving Image Gold place (National Final)
  • Graphic Design Gold place (National Final) 

Principal & Chief Executive of North Warwickshire & Hinckley College Marion Plant OBE is also WorldSkills UK Regional Champion for the West Midlands after its membership association, UK Skills, became impressed by the College's overall success in competitions in a number of fields, as well as the standards set by its staff and pupils nationally

WorldSkills UK run both regionally and nationally each year in the UK and aim to help lift standards of training and performance promoting world class skills and international competitiveness.

Outstanding WorldSkills UK National Finalists may be considered for potential inclusion in a shortlist for the team that goes on to represent the UK at a WorldSkills Competition.

WorldSkills UK is supported by government, the Devolved Nations and a host of other partners across business, industry and the world of education and training.

The College encourages students to get involved in the competitions as a valuable learning experience and also an opportunity to showcase their skills. Competitors receive help and support through all stages of the competition.
