Introduction by the Chairman of the NWHC Board of Governors

All FE college boards of governors are concerned with the process of governance i.e. the action or manner of governing. At its most simple, the purpose of governance is to ensure “that an organisation achieves what it should achieve while avoiding those behaviours and situations that should be avoided”. The information on this web page has been placed here to enable you to see how effective and efficient governance is conducted at NWHC.

The NWHC Board of Governors is keen to ensure that its staff, learners, the community it serves and the general public are able to access as much information about the College and the decisions taken by the Board as possible.

The reasons for this overriding desire for openness and transparency is two-fold; 

• firstly, because the Board is a guardian of public funds and as such it owes a duty to the public to demonstrate that it effectively and efficiently uses those funds,
• secondly, because the College is a major resource for the local community, the Board feels that it is essential to explain to that community, why the College is governed as it is.

 The information provided on this website includes: 

• The College mission statement and strategic aims;
• The names of the members of the Board;
• The regulations which outline how the corporation and the institution are to be conducted;
• The Board’s agendas and minutes and the papers informing the discussion of those meetings.

The Board of Governors hopes that the information available here, enables you to understand what the Board does and to assure you that NWHC is being efficiently and effectively governed for the benefit of the people it serves.
